Baskin Robins Flavour Challenge (complete)

This challenge has been completed!

It is my mission while here in South Korea to try 31 Baskin Robbins ice cram flavours in one year. On this page I will report back on my findings.

#1) 3/10/11  New Orleans Pecan Pie
This flavour was my first, and it was amazing. Crunchy toasted pecans, bits of biscuit base, caramel swirls. Possibly the perfect ice cream. Eaten on Hyundai beach, Busan.

#2) 5/10/11 Pralines and Cream
This one was delicious. Yummy chunks of slightly salty praline in caramel swirled vanilla ice cream. The praline bits tasted a bit toasted almond-y.

#3) 8/10/11 Cherries Jubilee
This is not a flavour I'd normally choose, but in the name of thorough testing, I did. I'm not generally a fan of fruit flavoured ice cream. This flavour was ok. It didn't actually have that much flavour, but it did have big chunks of cherry all through it, which was fun.

#4) 18/10/11 Puss in Boots 2
I have no picture for this one. It was pretty nice. A vanilla choc-chip ice cream with caramel and malteasers in it. It was nice, but not the best one.

#5) 22/10/11 Dulche de Leche
This one was delicious. It was a simple vanilla and caramel ice cream, but had such good flavour and texture! One of the best ones!

#6) 25/10/11 Macadamia Brownie
After the worst class of my life, I got off the bus at an earlier stop to eat ice cream before dinner. I was tempted to go for the pecan pie flavour again, but I remembered my challenge and stuck to it. I'm so glad I did! Macadamia brownie was simple amazing! Chocolate ice cream with a chocolate swirl, chewy chocolate brownie chunks, and sugared macadamias... like heaven in a cone. For those of you who have eaten Makana's macadamia brittle, it was like that in ice cream form. So good!

#7) 28/10/11 Jamoca Almond Fudge
This one was mocha flavoured ice cream with a chocolate swirl and slivered almonds. It was ok. I'm not a huge fan of coffee flavoured things, and the almonds were a bit soft. It was nice enough, though.

#8) 30/10/11 Peanut Rocket
This one was amazing! Goes on the top three list with pecan pie and pralines and cream. It was creamy vanilla ice cream with thin chocolate layers and chocolate coated lumps of peanut butter. Not much goes together better than chocolate and peanut butter. Mmmmmm!

#9) 7/11/11 Love Struck Strawberry
Vanilla yoghurt flavoured ice cream with crystallised strawberry and wafer-thin dark chocolate. Also, some other unidentified inclusion - could have been cheese cake? It was a bit like cream cheese lumps, which sounds gross, but it was nice. A really nice flavour, but it just misses out on a top five placing.

#10) 12/11/11 Cranberry Walnut
Vanilla ice cream with cranberry bits, candied, toasted walnut, and what looked and tasted like cinnamon apple sauce swirled through it. It was very nice, and tasted a bit like Christmas, with the cinnamon-y flavour.

#11) 18/11/11 Chocolate Mousse
I can't believe that it took me so long to try the chocolate flavour! It was very good. Very chocolatey with good sized chunks of chocolate liberally scattered throughout. A very nice one!

#12) 26/11/11 Mint Choc-Chip
This one was surprisingly standard. It was mint ice-cream with flakes of chocolate through it. Nothing extra, or special. It was nice, but not as amazing as some of the other flavours.

#13) 11/12/11 Snow Cheese Chocolate
Despite the weird name, this ice cream was not all that exciting. It tasted like a mascapone kind of base, with lumps of cream cheese texture and chocolate swirl. I wouldn't get it again, but it was nice.

#14) 17/12/11 Snow White
Christmas themed ice cream! Vanilla base with red candy cane swirl and mint choc-chips. Delicious!

#15) 26/12/11 Caramel Praline Cheesecake
Marscapone tasting ice cream with a caramel swirl and lumps of praline covered toasted walnut. Pretty great!

#16) 7/1/12  I Am Sam
Yes, that was the actual name of the flavour. How could I not get one? And surely a good omen for the first ice cream of the new year? It was white chocolate flavoured ice cream with dark chocolate truffle and caramel candied macadamia nut bits through it. Yes, it was as good as it sounds.

#17) 29/1/12 Pumpkin Cheesecake
This flavour was a bit boring. It had a cheesecake flavoured base ice cream with swirls of orange stuff I assume was supposed to be 'pumpkin'. It tasted very very slightly like tropical cheesecake. Fine, but not amazing.

#18) 1/3/12 Salty Caramella
Caramel ice-cream with caramel swirl and soft chocolate coated lumps of... you guessed it... caramel. Very nice ice-cream, but to be 'salty' caramel, it should have had some salt in it.

#19) 5/3/12 Chocoholic Dream
Dark and milk chocolate swirled ice-cream with chocolate chips and big chunks of chocolate fudge. Pretty much heaven in a cone.

#20) 29/4/12 Banana Monster
I'm not sure what made me pick this flavour - banana is not something I'd normally go for, but this ice cream was pretty good. It was mostly chocolate flavoured with a hint of banana. It had some wafer, chocolate flakes, and crunchy I-don't-know-what-they-were banana flavoured balls. It was a bit of a childish flavour, but good fun, and very nice.

#21) 26/5/12 Luna Cheesecake
The 'official' ice cream flavour of the Men in Black 3 movie, apparently. It was a cheesecake flavoured base with biscuit bits and chocolate bits. Nice, but not terribly exciting.

#22) 27/5/12 Pistachio-Almond
An almond flavoured ice cream, coloured green, with nuts all through it. Luckily, I really like the flavour of almond essence, otherwise this would have been a total disaster!

#23) 9/7/12 My Lemon Tree
I'm not a fan of fruit flavours, and wasn't a fan of this one. It was lemon ice cream with a cherry swirl, and crunchy bits of lemon biscuit. If it has been more tart it maybe would have been ok, but it was so sweet and fake tasting. It was like a flavour for kids.

#24) 13/7/12 Lucky Caramel Turtle
I was totally puzzled by the name of this ice cream until I realised that the chocolate bits in it were shaped like little turtles. For real. It was vanilla ice cream, caramel swirl, and little chocolate turtles. It also said something about 'no added sugar', but I'm not really sure what that meant. It was pretty sweet, but did taste a bit off, and the chocolate turtles were more like carob. It was nice, but not the best.

#25) 24/7/12 Rocky Road
In Japan! This flavour should have been amazing, it had the potential to be great, but didn't have enough nuts of marshmellows to quite make it. Good though.

#26) 3/8/12 Caramel Crunch
This was just really good cookies and cream ice cream with an added caramel swirl. It was yum!

#27) 10/9/12 Mochaccino
This was delicious! Coffee and chocolate ice cream with caramel swirl and chocolate pieces. Mmmm, I want another one!

#28) 19/9/12 Ghost World
It sounds like a kids flavour, but was actually amazing. Chocolate ice cream mixed with vanilla marshmallow ice cream with chocolate chunks and mini sugar cookies. It was really good!

#29) 23/9/12 Yuja Yoghurt (Yuja is Korean for lemon)
This one tasted just like lemon honey made into an ice cream flavour! It was delicious.

#30) 30/10/12 Sangria
Very fruity, but the same the whole way through.

#31) 3/10/12 Baskin Robbins Choco-crunch sundae
To celebrate 31 flavours in one year - a sundae!
